Supreme Court Blog #2

In the United States, there are three main branches of government; the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. The judicial branch is the court system in the United States. We the people trust these courts, of all different levels, to interpret the constitution. The highest-level court in the United States is the supreme court. It is the most powerful judiciary system in the world and is used as a model for judiciary systems around the world. The supreme court is made up of 9 justices who are appointed by the president and confirmed by the senate. The justices have no term limit and usually serve as a judge until they are no longer able.

After watching the videos about the supreme court, I have a new-found respect and admiration for the 9 justices. The 9 justices of the supreme court dedicate so much of their lives to serving on the court and making decisions that impact the lives of so many people.  I think it is incredible how the 9 justices work underneath the public’s eye with so much pressure about the cases they choose to take to trial and work in an environment like that. There are so many misconceptions about what the 9 justices actually do. They receive thousands of certs every year but only accept about 100 of them. People often think that the supreme court rejecting the case is their way of deciding about it, but in reality, they can only choose ones that they think are important enough or will make a difference. Another misconception that people have about the 9 justices is that they all make decisions based on their political preferences. They come to a final decision based on whether or not the constitution was properly interrupted in earlier trials. It is not easy for them to come to a verdict, they all vote, discuss, and have differing opinions. They are honest in the judgements and are a wonderful power in the American government.



The 9 justices are such intelligent individuals who have a very important and difficult job. Before watching the videos, I did not have a full understanding of what the supreme court and 9 justices’ true purpose in this country was. After the videos, I have a new appreciation for what the supreme court's purpose in the United States is and the 9 justices’ role in law interrupting.

In 2002, the first phones with built in cameras became accessible to the general public. These phones were the Nokia 7650 and Sanyo SCP-5300 and they displayed 176X208 pixel color images. This invention was revolutionary because it made it possible for people to take and share photos with anyone, instantly. Another Persons EOTO Blog #7

During the EOTO Tech Timeline presentations, I learned so much about the inventions of technologies that I use everyday. One thing that all of the presentations had in common that really stood out to me was that the people presenting always got excited to share the “fun fact” that they learned during their research. Even I shared a fun fact about my technology. The presentation on YouTube had many fun facts and statistics that really caught my attention. I watch many different things on YouTube all the time. It serves several purposes in my life. For example, I use it educationally to help me understand concepts, I use it to get news, and mostly for entertainment. There were many things in that presentation that I never knew about YouTube and I found impressive. One of them being that 500 hours of content is uploaded per minute.
